I am not a professional baker, can I still volunteer?

YES! High level baking skills not needed. I do ask that you do your best to deliver a special cake with thought given to the child or seniors interest. We also have behind the scenes volunteer opportunities like cake delivery, fundraising and grant writing.

Do I need to have a licensed kitchen?

No, we are protected under the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act. We do ask that your kitchen be clean and care taken with raw foods such as eggs, so that all cakes are baked with food safety in mind.

How will I receive an order?

When an order comes in we will send a group email out seeking a volunteer to fulfill the order. The email will have basic information about the cake, delivery date and place and who the cake is for. All orders will be filled on a first come first serve basis.  Deliveries are made at the local agency referring the cake order.

Can I take pictures of the kids or seniors with their cakes?

No. A lot of the cakes will go to kids that are in the family court system and their information needs to be kept private and confidential. Very rarely will you get to meet the actual individual the cake is for.

How many cakes do I have to bake?

Just 4 orders per year – you choose when!

Other requirements and information:

  • Please take a picture of your cake/cupcakes prior to delivery and email it to the county leader. This is strictly for tracking purposes for our record keeping that we need to do.
  • The size of the cake will be either a 9 X 13 or 9 inch round (or any other shape that serves 24). Cupcakes are 24 count.
  • Please remember this is a volunteer opportunity only, so your reimbursement is pure enjoyment and the love of helping others.
  • We will not take any orders for those with any type of allergies.
